Donald B. Rice Tire Company: History


Donald B. Rice, Sr. went into business in 1929, opening a Gulf Service Station on South Market Street in Frederick. As a one-man shop, he earned a reputation for honesty and good service. In order to accommodate the growing local market for large construction and commercial vehicle tires, Donald Rice expanded his business in 1956.

	As the business continued to grow, he relocated to the 700 block of East Street in 1960, and finally to 909 N East Street in 1969.

The 909 East Street facility currently serves as Donald B. Rice Tire Company's corporate office, with commercial facilities located in Frederick, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Cumberland, Winchester, Haymarket, Harrisonburg, Culpeper, and Hagerstown. Donald Rice, Sr. passed away in 1987. Ken Rice, CEO of Donald B. Rice Tire Company and the youngest of Donald Rice's three sons, has carried on in his father's tradition since 1975.
